The frame will outlast the cushion fabrics, which typically need replacement after 5–8 years in direct sun. Buying replacement cushions rather than replacing the entire set is the sustainable maintenance approach.
What Doesn’t Hold Up: Materials to Avoid
Wrought iron is heavy, classic, and extremely prone to rust at any point where the protective coating chips or scratches — which is inevitable with outdoor use. Rust propagates under the finish and eventually requires complete stripping and repainting.
